Although the product has only hit the shops two weeks ago, DermaH2O WaterWipes has already gained support and praise from health care professionals and national baby care experts.…

The genuine purity and simplicity of DermaH2O WaterWipes has caught the attention of midwives, health nurses and baby care experts alike. The very experienced and well known midwife and baby care expert ‘Doreen Buckley’ (you might recognise her name from her popular parent advice TV serious ‘Baby on Board’) is one of them….

“As a midwife, I know just how important it is that a baby’s skin is cleaned with cotton wool and water, especially in those first few weeks. But, it’s not always practical especially if you’re out with your new baby. Conventional baby wipes, because of the chemicals and preservatives in them, are simply too harsh for a new baby’s skin or for one with inflammatory skin conditions so I’m delighted that there’s now finally a genuine and convenient alternative that midwives can confidently recommend, and parents can use with peace of mind”. Doreen Buckley, midwife and national baby bare expert (for more information about Doreen visit www.doreenbuckley.ie)

These innovative new WaterWipes have indeed been met with a warm welcome from health care professionals and regional health nurses across the land- which is not surprising as unlike all other baby wipes on the market DermaH2O WaterWipes are the only genuine alternative to cotton wool and water. DermaH2O WaterWipes are not made with synthetic preservatives or the usual chemical additives found in all other baby wipes are therefore the only wipes that are genuinely as pure and mild as cotton wool and water. Just look at the ingredients list on DermaH2O WaterWipes (containing 99.9% purified and just 0.1% fruit extract) and compare it any other brand of baby wipes (which typically contain a long list of chemical preservatives and ingredients). You will quickly note that DermaH2O WaterWipes are by far the purest and safer product-the only wipes that are as pure as cotton wool and water, and the only baby wipes that should be used to care for delicate newborn skin.

DermaH2O WaterWipes now available in Boots the Chemist throughout Ireland and in selected stores in the UK.

After years of detailed product testing and research, we are delighted to advise that WaterWipes can now be bought in Boots stores within Ireland and the UK (from 29th July.) They will also be available soon through a number of online stores including www.boots.com , www.amazon.co.uk and www.ecobaby.ie

WaterWipes, from DermaH2O, has all the purity and mildness of cotton wool and cooled boiled water as recommended by midwives, combined with the convenience of conventional baby wipes. They’re made from just 99.9% water, 0.1% grapefruit seed extract and nothing else. WaterWipes are specifically created to care for newborn babies’ delicate skin, finally giving new parents a genuine alternative to cotton wool and cooled boiled water without any of the hassle. Safe to use from birth, this patent-pending product is made without any of the usual synthetic preservatives or chemical additives found in all other baby wipes. Parents can use them without the fear of triggering infant skin conditions such as nappy rash and atopic eczema.

Edward McCloskey, Managing Director of Irish Breeze, the makers of DermaH2O WaterWipes, comments “Our research showed that while parents are well aware that cotton wool and cooled boiled water is best for a newborn baby’s bottom, the associated hassle and mess usually led them to reach for conventional baby wipes much earlier than they would have liked and of course than midwives recommend. Using brand new technology, we have invented a baby wipe that allows parents to conveniently care for their newborn baby’s bottom without worrying about damaging their delicate skin in what is referred to as the ‘fourth trimester’. So, they’re as safe as cotton wool and water but without the hassle. DermaH2O WaterWipes are as convenient as baby wipes, but without any nasty ingredients.”

These extra-soft and absorbent wipes leave no greasy residue – they are simply pure, clean and fresh. There is a tester pack facility built into the display stands within the Boots stores to allow parents ‘feel the difference’ prior to purchasing. The groundbreaking WaterWipes – the world’s purest baby wipes - are pH neutral and non-irritating making them ideal for newborns, babies, and everyone with sensitive skin. The wipes are also 100% biodegradable, made from renewable sources. The packaging is also a patented innovation which protects the wipes and ensures they won’t dry out after opening, with easy single-handed dispensing too.

Get on down to Boots and try a WaterWipe for yourself!

Survey finds that majority of midwives are aware of the chemical and preservative content in all other baby wipes.

DermaH20 ‘WaterWipes’ have come tops in a survey of midwives at an international convention in Glasgow.

Irish Breeze exhibited at the 28th International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) Triennial Congress 2008, which was hosted by the Royal College of Midwives in Scotland last month. Our survey of attendees found that the majority of midwives are aware of the chemical and preservative content in all other baby wipes.

Among the survey’s key findings:

67% of the midwives recommended that ideally a baby wipe should have just purified water

18% preferred purified water and a mild cleansing ingredient

Unsurprisingly, 95% preferred the use of more ‘natural’ ingredients in baby skin care products

Many midwives commented on how they have experienced at first hand the effect that such products can cause, such as reactions on baby’s delicate skin.

Here are some of the comments:

“I have always had reservations about chemicals on new baby’s skin”

“I have seen many a sore ‘bot’ from other wipes”

“I discourage Mums from using them”

“The experience of impact of these products on a newborn infant’s skin is adverse”

“Most definitely I see lots of babies’ bottoms with rashes and skin conditions”

The purity of the new preservative-free DermaH20 ‘WaterWipes’ was well received among midwives, which is not surprising as it is the only wet wipe product that can honestly match the purity of cotton wool and water as recommended by midwives for years.

Very enthusiastic

Some midwives left very enthusiastic comments welcoming the arrival of this new product:

“Happy to see no chemical additives”

“Delighted to learn of your product”

“Because the skin of a newborn is very sensitive to chemicals, less chemicals is good for them”

“Mums will gladly buy this product for its purity and for its convenience”

“Natural is best”

“Because babies can react to preservatives, they need a product that is as natural as possible”

“It would seem basically the same as using cotton wool and water”

“It would be mild enough for child care with no irritations”

The overall feedback was that it was a very enjoyable event, and it was fantastic to meet so many midwives from across the globe.

Thanks again to all who took part in our survey and to visitors to our stand at the event. As promised we’ll let you know when the product is available on the market.

Your baby’s skin is supposed to be soft and smooth. But in reality, leading American paediatrician Mathew Avram says, most young children are prone to all kinds of rashes and skin problems. Eczema is another common skin condition affecting one in five children.

The good news is that these problems are usually easy and affordable to treat. "At birth, a child’s skin is 40 percent thinner than adult skin, and when you have thinner skin, your skin is more susceptible to you having complications," he says.

Meanwhile a recent study has found that baby shampoos, lotions and powders may expose infants to nasty chemicals called phthalates. The same chemicals are found in other common products including cosmetics, toys and vinyl flooring.

The study’s lead author, Dr Sheela Sathyanarayana, a paediatrician at the University of Washington, says: "The bottom line is that these chemicals likely do exist in products that we’re commonly using on our children and they potentially could cause health effects."

The study, which appeared in February’s issue of the journal Pediatrics, involved 163 babies, aged 2 to 28 months.

Babies don’t usually need special lotions and powders, and water alone or shampoo in very small amounts is generally enough to clean infant hair, Sathyanarayana said.

As for baby wipes, midwives and dermatologists recommend that these should not be used in the first few months of a baby’s life. Instead, cooled boiled (i.e. sterile) water applied with cotton wool is recommended at nappy changing time.

DermaH20 WaterWipes are the only baby wipes to comply with this recommendation while remaining as convenient to use as ordinary baby wipes.

A top dermatologist has advised parents against using conventional baby wipes, as they can trigger nappy rash, dermatitis or eczema.

Dr Peter Foley, a senior lecturer in dermatology at the University of Melbourne, says warm water and cotton wool or a soft face washer are the best things to clean a baby’s nappy area.

His comments come after a paper by UK dermatologists in Dermatology in Practice that says baby wipes can “contain crude surfactants and perfumes” which can “decrease the integrity” of the skin, leading to eczema.

Dr Foley says using conventional wipes in the nappy area contributes to eczema because it contains a surfactant, so it breaks down barriers and is an irritant — especially if the skin is a bit inflamed.

Conventional nappy wipes also contain perfume – a common cause of irritant contact dermatitis – and they remove oil.
